Home of a Texas True Crime Story Sold
I’ve been seeing a lot about the new Hulu five-part miniseries, Candy. As a true crime lover, I am intrigued. But, I don’t have a Hulu subscription. This story may just be enough for me to invest though! The real life home of this Texas true crime story actually just sold not long ago…
But first, a bit about the story
The miniseries is based on a real life murder in Texas. In fact, it’s one of the most famous true crime stories in American history. In the show, Jessica Biel plays the role of Candy Montgomery. She was what seemed like a typical 1980’s housewife and mother.
But, there seems to have been a different side of Candy, though. She was accused of killing her friend Betty Gore with an ax in 1980, but was later acquitted. Interestingly enough, this story on Insider talks about the whereabouts of Candy Montgomery now. It says some reports say she moved to GEORGIA!
There were two Texas Monthly articles that were published in 1984 which may reveal a bit more behind why Montgomery would’ve killed her best friend. It is said that Montgomery was having an affair with Betty’s husband. When tried for the murder, Montgomery pleaded she killed her friend out of self defense. Regardless of the reasoning, it’s a crazy story that has me really needing to get a Hulu account NOW!
Home Where this Texas true crime story happened
Apparently, the incident with the ax took place in the laundry room at Betty Gore’s home in Texas. So, what happened to the house?
Well, according to Realtor, the house still stands. And yes, people actually have lived there. It actually just sold back in March for $344,900… which was over the asking price! According to the real estate agent, the house has been remodeled and “looks like a normal house.” Which makes me wonder, what does a “not normal” house look like?
Anyway, here’s a look at the laundry room today.

For the record, Realtor says famous murder homes rarely sell quickly. This home in Texas though? Sold in just a few weeks.
