Then, I see today that Google shows searches for "butter boards" are way up!
Who knew?
So I had to do a little bit of my own research... because I'm curious like that. And the first place I checked? TikTok (Sorry, Google). I will tell you, there was no shortage of videos when I typed "butter board" into the search!
Butter Boards - A Definition
I did go to Google though to see the "definition" of butter board. The first article I came across was from USA Today. They say, "The latest craze that's snaking its way through TikTok and Instagram is all about aesthetically pleasing, shareable spreads." They also found that the #ButterBoard on TikTok spiked to nearly 84 million views as of Monday!
From what I've gathered, you use softened butter and spread it on the board. Then you add in toasted bread. Of course, you can get really fancy with it if you like and have a flavored butter, and also add in some cheese, nuts, fruit, meat, etc. Basically, a charcuterie board, right? Just with butter?
Let's check out some more butter boards - where they originated, and some varieties!
Origins?
At first, I thought it was Justine Doiron's idea... because she posted on Instagram saying she wants to make them the next charcuterie boards...
But she does credit Joshua McFadden with the original idea. Apparently he included them in his 2017 book "Six Seasons: A New Way With Vegetables."
Not The New Charcuterie Board...
While some say they are the new charcuterie board... this TikTok creator disagrees!
Fried Garlic Butter Board?
King's Hawaiian has even joined the trend on TikTok... featuring their delicious sweet rolls, of course! This looks pretty good!
Trend? Or Worth Doing Again
Simple... and aesthetically pleasing!
A Different Take
Instead of butter... this TikToker uses cream cheese, and makes an Everything But The Bagel Board.
Italian Style
Seems there are many varieties you can choose from with this new trend!
Old Bay's On The Trend Too!
This one is pretty simple. Old Bay jumped in with their own take on the trend!
And Even More
This one has cinnamon, walnuts, craisins, honey and lemon zest added.
