Halsey’s TikTok Drama
Halsey recently took to social media, putting her record label on blast. The song she’s wanted to release has been held back because the label wouldn’t let her… until it went viral on TikTok.

Talked to my label tonight after my tiktok tantrum. They said “wow the tiktok is going really strong!” I was like ok cool so can I release my song now? They said “we’ll see!” 🙃 tell me again how I’m making this up.

Understandably, Halsey couldn’t fathom how an artist at her level still had to go ‘viral’ in order to get a song released. It wasn’t long before her label took to Twitter with a response.
- @halsey, we love you and are here to support you. We are committing to a release of “So Good” on June 9th, 2022. pic.twitter.com/DKBrtRUCpk

Looks like that open dialogue (on Twitter and/or elsewhere) paid off! Halsey’s So Good will now be released on June 9th, and the music video will drop on June 10th. Here’s her response once all the drama subsided:
I didn’t expect so much conversation about this record, all I know is that I wanted you guys to hear it and now you can. So Good, song on June 9th and video the next day. Endy gave me my flowers 💐 pic.twitter.com/TIz6i3kLdV

For someone who has been in the industry for 8 years, had many hit songs and millions of records sold, it seems crazy that a label would hold off on putting out a song until it goes viral on TikTok. I will say, TikTok has definitely changed the music industry though. Many popular songs have gotten their start on TikTok, but most of those are newer artists. Not artists with an established history.
