Get To Know Me:
Hi, I’m Skittles! I am a 4 year old, possible long haired Chihuahua mix and I weigh around 10 pounds.
As with most of us in rescue, I too have a history that will break even the toughest of hearts. I was born in a hoarding situation, where I never knew what human touch was, let alone knowing what it felt like to be loved. I ended up in another bad situation when a few people told me they were coming to save me. I ended up living outside in a kennel with my sister for a few more years. Luckily when my DNA family found out about us they jumped at the chance to give us the life we truly deserved. My foster mom made a promise that I will never have to deal that type of situation again.
Boy what a change in my life! I’m inside a nice cozy house, taking naps on the sofa and even sneaking in bed with my foster mom from time to time. It’s taken a long time to get to this point but here I am… looking for my forever family to continue to love me the way I deserve.
My Perfect Fur-Ever Home:
My ideal family is going to be one who has patience. It takes me about 2-3 months for me to start trusting new humans because I have been let down so much. I am working on leash training so that means I need a fenced in yard while I continue to work on not being so scared of the leash. I will need a family with no young children (they make me very nervous). I don’t bite or growl, I just run and hide. Having other dogs is a must also, I learn from their cues and watch how they trust humans. Having four-legged siblings means not only learning from them but it also gives me someone to play with.
I may need a special family to give me lots of patience at first but I promise once I get to that level of trust , there is no turning back. I love jumping for joy when my foster mom comes home for work or doing a little dance when my foster dad breaks out the treats. My confidence has really grown and I just know with my forever home I will feel the same way. I’m what rescue is all about…
