This Trail In North Augusta Just Keeps Getting Better

If the weather is nice, you'll see many people on the North Augusta Greeneway, named after former North Augusta Mayor Tom Greene. This Trail In North Augusta Just Keeps Getting Better. Walkers, runners, and bicyclists around the area make this their go-to place for exercise.

According to Rick Meyer, Parks, Recreation & Tourism director, the Greeneway is 9 miles long connected. In addition to the Walnut Lane walking path and the Palmetto Parkway trail, the city has about 15 miles of trails.

Plans are for the Greeneway to extend to the old North Augusta Country Club property in the future, with plans for a park there.

In the near future, the city will concentrate on connecting the Greeneway to downtown North Augusta in the next year so—also, restrooms near Hammond Hills and more city neighborhood connectivity. Construction is underway as they are adding seats to the amphitheater at SRP Park, and a new boat dock on the Savannah River with an overlook is being built.

The master plan will include connecting the North Augusta Greeneway to the Augusta Trail system when the new 13 Street bridge is completed. I've heard it could begin after the I-20 bridge construction is completed. Eventually, it could connect to the new Augusta Pedestrian Bridge, too,  but that probably won't happen for some time because of permits and the cost of the wetlands in that area.

The average number of Greeneway users is 24,000. The highest traffic months are March, April, May, October, and December. It's hot here in the summer, but most of the Greeneway is shaded.

You can park and walk from the Bergen Road lot and the parking area near River Club Golf Course. Many people park at the recreation department to start their walk and a lesser-known small parking area at the bridge over Martintown Road.
