New Book Club, ‘The Marathon Book Club,’ Inspired By Nipsey Hussle’s Love For Reading

Los Angeles rapper Nipsey Hussle was fatally shot in March 2019. However, the "Victory Lap" artist is still inspiring fans.

Hussle's love of books and reading has inspired a group of men to start a book club in his honor. Entitled "The Marathon Book Club," its members meet up to discuss literature, as the Los Angeles Times reports.

The Marathon Book Club also has several other chapters nationwide. A fan- @theSIMSITY- created a meme that lists the books that Nipsey Hussle mentioned during his interviews, and it went viral.

"Now, almost a year later, 74 black men and two Latinos make up the four chapters of The Marathon Book Club," writes Angel Jennings in her L.A. Times story.

Jennings also added that "The Marathon Book Club" is comprised of men from various walks of life such as entrepreneurs, investment bankers, professors, and corporate executives.

The rapper's book list includes titles such as Three Magic Words by Uell Stanley Andersen, Contagious: Why Things Catch On by Jonah Berger, The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason, and a myriad of others.

Dead Prez member Stic also recently took to Instagram to share a list of books that the late Tupac Shakur has mentioned. Pac's list consists of titles including The Phenomenon of Man by Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, Thoughts and Meditations by  Kahlil Gibran, The Confessions of Nat Turner by William Styron, among various others.

Retired Chicago rapper Noname has a book club titled Noname Book Club that also has several chapters nationwide. R&B singer Amerie has a digital book club too. She also does Instagram Live sessions with her book club members where they discuss books such as Margaret Atwood's The Testaments.
