Adele’s Dream Hollywood Gig
In a new cover feature for The Hollywood Reporter‘s “Women In Entertainment” issue, Adele says authenticity gives her power. More than anything, the “Someone Like You” songstress stands her ground on being unapologetically herself in all aspects of her life. In fact, she tells the publication that “it’s always been like that.”
Adele’s Future in Hollywood
Within the feature, the 35-year-old singer-songwriter was asked if she ever considered acting. Though she plainly rejects it, Adele says there is one movie that she would want to do, but the “guy whose movie it would be, he’s not mentally ready to write the script for it.” Being coy about who the person was and not revealing his identity, Adele says she bugs him occasionally about it. She’s even confident that she’ll “nail” the role. Besides that, the award-winning artist gets offers to do biopics all the time of singers. Slamming the genre, Adele says that the people who are talented enough to have a biopic about them are just setting themselves up for disaster. To expect Adele to sing as herself wouldn’t sound like anyone else but her.
As the topic of Hollywood comes up in the interview several times, Adele says her dream gig would be a script reader. A script script reader analyzes a film script to determine if the material is desirable, and she loves that. People think she’s being funny, but Adele would love to work in TV behind the scenes. She’s had the conversation many times with her manager. Though she reassures him that music is her hobby, being a head script reader like Sherry Lansing is her dream job. She doesn’t want to own a company but join a production.
Who Can Sing Like Adele?
In the feature story, Adele spoke about how her way of singing differs from anyone else’s. She tells THR she thinks she has inherited a lot of sadness ever since she was little. As she puts it, “It’s like I’ve got hollow legs, but it’s just filled with things that I think I’m getting over, or I think haven’t affected me. Or things I think I’m not taking on from somebody else, but I am.” Growing up, her mother loved Jeff Buckley, who she could tell was sad when she heard his songs. When she’d sing along, Adele would imitate their sadness and could do it because she had her own sadness. With her music, Adele says she’s not the best singer by a long shot, “but no one else can sing my songs like me because they didn’t write them. No one can sing my songs like me, period.”
The third leg of the Weekends With Adele residency in Las Vegas will launch in January.
