One South Carolina Town Is Offering A Mayonnaise Tour
One South Carolina town is offering a mayonnaise tour! While that may not seem very exciting to read, it actually sounds pretty cool because the tour takes you to 20 stops highlighting Duke’s Mayonnaise. Greenville, South Carolina is home to Duke’s Mayonnaise and according to VisitGreenvilleSC.com they want to take you on a mayonnaise-tasting trail with multiple historical stops that tell the story of how the popular southern condiment was created. Tennessee and Kentucky do Bourbon Trails. South Carolina does a mayonnaise trail and I’m here for it.
Growing Up With Duke’s
As a native of Greenville, SC, I grew up with Duke’s Mayonnaise all around me. At my high school, you could buy “Duke’s Sandwiches” from the school store every Wednesday. The church we went to growing up was across the street from the factory. The event space where the mayonnaise was originally bottled is in the heart of downtown Greenville. I was basically today years old when I discovered all of this information and it’s been so fun to learn. Read the full history here!
A Staple Of The Carolinas
The joke around the Carolinas when it comes to Duke’s is that “you can put it on anything.” You’ll hear that about as often as “just put some duct tape on it.” To kick off the start of this year’s college football season, both the University of North Carolina and the University of South Carolina went head to head in the “Duke’s Mayonnaise Bowl” in Charlotte, NC. Fans and students from both schools showed up early and even more impressive showed out by covering themselves in Duke’s Mayonnaise. While it’s a fun game to win, it may not be so fun for the coach. The winning coach gets to sit in a chair and have a bucket of mayonnaise poured over their head and that’s about where I draw the line with my love for Duke’s.
