Cher ‘Buried The Hatchet’ With ‘Mean’ Madonna
Cher has shut down years of rumors surrounding a feud between her and Madonna. In a new interview with the Los Angeles Times, the “Turn Back Time” singer, 77, was asked if she saw Madonna’s video clip in her new show from an old interview from 1991 where she said that she’s “mean” and a “c—.” When asked what she thought of Madonna, Cher said she disliked how mean she was.
Explaining a situation in which she was friends with Madonna’s husband, Sean Penn, at the time, Cher recalled how the “Material Girl” singer was allegedly “rude to everybody” at her home. “It seems to me that she’s got so much that she doesn’t have to act the way that she acts, like a spoiled brat all the time,” Cher continued. “It seems to me when you reach the kind of acclaim that she’s reached and can do whatever you wanna do, you should be a little more magnanimous and be a little less of a c—.”

Responding bluntly to the question at hand in her LA Times interview, Cher now says, “I said a lot worse than that.” As the publication tried digging into what the beef is between the two superstar singers, Cher cleared the air and it is not actually a beef, and rather, she likes her. However, she makes it a point that Madonna can be mean, further divulging about the drama from back then. “We buried that hatchet a long time ago because I called her something so much worse, and she forgave me.”
Giving the “Hung Up” singer her kudos, Cher says, “But I give her this: There’s no one like her that had their ear to the ground and knew everything before anybody else. I mean, she knew what was coming, and she was right on it. I always felt that was her greatest gift — that she could know the trends before any of us.”
Cher is releasing her first-ever Christmas album, available November 17. Meanwhile, Madonna is currently on her Celebration Tour, having recently performed in London.
