New Day, New Goals – Workin’ On My Fitness!
Most of you know, I’m really into fitness. But, I’m nowhere near where I want to be. Sometimes I think it’s because I have too many things I want to do: lift heavier, run faster, do more yoga… etc. And with working out, comes discipline. I say discipline because I can guarantee that I am not always motivated! There are days when I REALLY don’t want to go to the gym or get my run in. And nights when I don’t sleep well, I want to sleep right through that alarm. But, it’s always good to set some new goals to keep you focused on where you want to go, right?
Why I Work Out
I work out for a few reasons. Obviously for my health, number one. Some health issues run in my family, so I’d like to stay on top of it and stay healthy! And number two, it’s like therapy! Even if I’m not giving 100 percent, moving my body always makes me feel better. I’ve had days where I tell myself, “Just get on the treadmill and do 10 minutes.” Next thing you know, it’s been 20! Most of the time, once I start moving, I’m more likely to finish a full workout. Not always, but most of the time!
Early Morning Workouts
For me, working out in the morning is the ONLY time that works for me. Sure, it’s hard to get up early… but if I wait until after work, I’m about 95 percent less likely to work out. I’ll use the excuse of– I got stuck late at work, I’m too tired, I’ll do it tomorrow, etc. If I have all day to think about it, I’ll come up with some of the BEST excuses. So for me, early morning it is!
Time To Shake It Up – New Goals
Just recently, I’ve found myself struggling to stay disciplined/motivated. And I was thinking about it… I need a GOAL! I seem to work best when I have something I’m working towards. I happened to see another member of my gym post about doing pull-ups each day. Pull-ups are something I have always struggled with. Although I did win a little fitness competition years ago with my mom and trainer. We had set our own goals, and mine was to do 5 unassisted pull-ups by the end of the time period. And I did it! But because I didn’t stick with doing them, I lost it!
So with that in mind, I’ve decided I will start doing pull-ups every time I go to the gym. This morning I did 3 sets of 5 reps. I used 25 pounds of assistance, so I’m hoping each week I can knock that down some and build my strength! I’ll keep you posted… you guys keep me accountable!
Looking for somewhere to start? You know, there are benefits to even walking just one mile a day!
