5 Off-Brand Children’s Flicks That You’ll Totally Remember From The 90’s
Yes, the Disney world has run cartoons for years on end, but there were some ridiculously off brand gems of the 90’s you just can’t forget!
Rock-A-Doodle
As if you needed a cartoon version of Elvis, Rock-A-Doodle is a tale where a little kid gets sucked into a book to go find the rooster named Chanticleer (voiced by Glen Campbell) who croons the sun to the surface. There’s also a group of really creepy owls that are in control, including the Grand Duke of Owls, which will give you some of those really twisted nightmares. You can find the whole movie all over YouTube if you look for it.
The Pebble And The Penguin
A whole movie based on the fact that Penguins give their lady Penguins a specific pebble, but makes super ridiculous parallels to how women want giant rings for their engagements. Sometimes the Penguin is better than the pebble, ladies. Plus, Martin Short and James Belushi? Sign me up.
An American Tail: Feivel Goes West

James Stewart voices a Sheriff that has lost his bite, until he teaches Dom DeLuise, a cat named Tiger, to give the baddies a LAAAAAAAAAAAZZZYYYYYY EYEEEEE! But most of the story is surrounding Fievel’s family moving to the old west to look for work, and he comes to face John Cleese as Cat R. Waul. Honestly, it’s absolutely ridiculous but also completely perfect.
FernGulley: The Last Rainforest
Robin Williams is a bat that has been chemically tested on with cosmetics, there are fairies that can shrink people into Fairy Size, and Tim Curry as Hexxus, singing quite possibly the best villain song ever from any off-brand (aka NOT DISNEY) movie of all time. It’s also basically a giant plug from “hippies” to protect the environment as propaganda for children, which is honestly pretty hilarious/awesome if you think about it.
Cats Don’t Dance
A singing and dancing cat that has to face Hollywood’s evils to become a star. Though here’s not really any famous voicing in this film, it’s been said that the animators of Cats Don’t Dance studied the moves of Gene Kelly to recreate the moves of the cats while dancing. Plus, Darla Dimple is pretty much Taylor Swift and Shirley Temple rolled into one.
What is your favorite 90’s flick that wasn’t Disney?
Amy Cooper is one with the force and the force is with her.
