Hangxiety Is A Real Thing According To This TikToker!
Hangxiety is a real thing! That anxious feeling after a night of drinking? Yep, that!
In this video from TikToker @Sophs.Notes, she explains that the anxiety you feel when you’re hungover is a real thing. Have you ever been there? You wake up after a night of drinking and feel terrible, plus you’re riddled with anxious thoughts? Not a great place to be… but you’re not alone, apparently.
Not sure if she’s got a medical degree or not, but Sophs.Notes’ TikTok page does describe herself as a “class clown/science nerd.”
She breaks down the chemical reasons in your brain for these feelings… and I can see where it makes sense. You’re not crazy, just chemically unbalanced! So yes, hangxiety is a real thing! Basically, when you drink the glutamate and GABA in your brain does the OPPOSITE of what it’s supposed to do– GABA typically chills you out, and glutamate wires you up. But when you drink they react differently, slowing your reaction time and lowering your inhibitions.
When morning comes, your brain tries to re-balance, but this usually results in overcompensation. Your body becomes super sensitive to glutamate, making you hyper-reactive, and it basically ignores the GABA that’s trying to re-balance, which would normally chill you out.
Only thing now is… how do we prevent it? Hmmmm…
