Rainbow Bridge in North Carolina To Remember Lost Pets
A woman in Lake Lure, North Carolina has created a Rainbow Bridge to celebrate and remember pets we have lost.
Amy Wald is an artist who wanted to create a spot for the community to remember their lost four-legged friends. Amy lost 2 dogs herself during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Fox Carolina. She asked Lake Lure officials if she could build a rainbow bridge. She got the approval needed and built the bridge in the Flowering Bridge community garden.
The beautiful bridge represents a bridge that has been written about in various books and poems. It’s a bridge that’s talked about our beloved pets going over when they pass away. And it’s considered a place that connects earth and heaven.
Amy Wald attached one of her own dogs’ collars on the railing of the bridge. For a while, it was the only one. But now, pictures of the bridge are going viral online. People from all over started coming to add their own mementos from their pets. Now, there are hundreds of collars, harnesses, tags, and pictures that adorn the bridge.
You may have heard of love lock bridges, where people put locks to represent their love. And, we actually have one here in Columbia County at the Savannah Rapids. But Amy Wald has been told there’s not another place like her real-life rainbow bridge.

@heavybreathingadventures Did you know there's a rainbow bridge in Lake Lure, North Carolina 🌈 🐶 🐈⬛️ The bridge was built not too long ago and is a beautiful addition to the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge + Dog Garden. The first time we visited back in January 2023 to bring our dog Mac's leash up, there were a bunch of collars and leashes hung in memory of all those fur babies lost. In May of 2023, we went back to bring a picture of Mac and the collars had doubled. What a beautiful tribute to all our babies ❤️🩹 #explorenorthcarolina #explore #explorenc #fyp #lakelurenc #lakelure #lakelurefloweringbridge #rainbowbridge #rainbowbridge🌈 #grief #griefjourney #pet #petloss #petlossgrief #dog #dogs #cat #cats #travel #thegreatoutdoors #outside #aw #sweet #northcarolina #hikenc #petlover #pets #petlosssupport #petlossgriefrainbowbridge
