June 12 is known as National Jerky Day. One of the most popular ways to celebrate this holiday is, of course, eating jerky. Jerky is available at almost any grocery or convenience store. For National Jerky Day I realized I am not up to par on my jerky 101. The only jerky I've ever had and am familiar with is a Slim Jim Beef Jerky.

Did you know Jerky isn't always just beef? It is also made from other animals.

Types of meat that can be used for jerky

  • alligator
  • alpaca
  • ostrich
  • snake
  • duck

Basically any lean meat.

Again, while jerky is readily accessible at most grocery and convenience stores, there are a few places in Georgia with their own craft jerky.

Where to get craft jerky in Georgia of all types

  • Bad Bud’s Jerky - Hogansville, GA
  • Outlaw Jerky & Trail Grub - Dahlonega, GA
  • Runnin Wild Foods -  Norcross, Georgia
  • Stripling’s General Store - Bogart, GA
  • Beef Jerky Experience -  Savannah

While learning all about jerky, there was something else that caught me be surprise! Outside of taking it out of plastic wrapping and taking a bite  of jerky, there are other ways that jerky is ate.

I did not know there were other ways to enjoy jerky. Here are a few ways to eat jerky, other than just taking it out of the package that it can be ate that I found.

  • Add to rice or fried rice
  • Crumble on a salad
  • Toss into roasted brussel sprouts
  • Add it to a soup
  • As a sushi filling

That is just a few of the ways I discovered that it could also be ate. If jerky is your thing, enjoy your jerky day!
