El Paso Tacos And Tequila In Downtown Augusta – One Bucket List Item Checked Off

Not long ago, I created a Summer In Augusta Bucket List. It was inspired by an Instagram post I'd seen, and also by the fact that there are many things in Augusta I haven't done, or at least not in a while. But one of the first things on my list was to visit El Paso Tacos and Tequila. And this weekend, I did just that! First Visit To El Paso Tacos And Tequila A friend and I decided we wanted to go out for dinner on Saturday night. And I told her I'd really been wanting to try El Paso Tacos and Tequila in downtown Augusta. She and her husband aren't picky, so she said that would be fine. Now, I will say, after recent happenings in downtown Augusta, we didn't want to be down there too late. But also, I always go to bed early, so I tend to eat dinner earlier than most. But we decided to meet at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. David and I got there a little before 5:30 p.m. We were able to park relatively close by. When we walked in, we were able to get seated immediately. There were quite a few people already dining, but it wasn't packed. Our server brought us some water, and I ordered cheese dip... because that's one of the main things I judge a Mexican restaurant on. If they don't have good queso, I probably don't come back! The cheese dip did have jalapenos in it, which I'm usually not a huge fan of. But that's mainly if there's big chunks of jalapeno. Thankfully, there wasn't in this cheese dip. It was pretty spicy as well. But I like some spicy stuff, so that wasn't a huge issue. Margaritas At El Paso Tacos And Tequila Once our friends arrived, we ordered drinks and food. I ordered their Top Shelf Margarita, which is essentially a Texas Margarita. I ordered it because it was made with 1800, versus the Jose Cuervo in their other margaritas. Me and Jose don't get along well! I ordered their large margarita, which was 38 ounces, according to the menu! And I can say, it was HUGE! But also... it was BEAUTIFUL! I'd never seen a margarita dressed up like this! The salt on the rim was blue. They also added blueberries, blackberries, and an orange slice to the drink, along with a beautiful flower on the rim. The Top Shelf Margarita is made with 1800 tequila, Orange Liqueur, fresh orange juice, fresh lime juice, and Sweet & Sour. You can get it made on the rocks or frozen. It was delicious, but not extremely strong either. And don't worry, I only had one! The Food At El Paso Tacos And Tequila When it came to food, I ordered three soft-shelled tacos. As a picky eater, that's one of my main menu items at a Mexican restaurant. And I order it without lettuce or tomato... just meat and cheese for me. But they have a very extensive menu, with a variety of burritos, tacos, quesadillas, nachos, fajitas, and more. The flavor of the tacos was pretty good, but again, I'm weird about my food. I noticed immediately that there was more than just meat on the taco. While it wasn't chunks of vegetables, there were some diced-up veggies. I'm not sure what they were, but I mostly picked them out. Again, the flavor wasn't bad, but I wasn't a fan of the extras in the meat. I ate two of the tacos, then David ate the last one. He had a sampler platter from the appetizer menu, and I wound up eating half of the chicken and cheese quesadilla from that. Overall Review The first thing I noticed was the decor. It was very bright and vibrant. From what I've heard, they did quite a bit of work on the place, which used to be Mellow Mushroom. I had never been to Mellow when it was there, so I don't really have anything to compare it to. I will say, the music was a bit loud in the area where we were. We were seated near the bar. And at times, the music made it hard to have a conversation across the table. The service was good. Our server was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. I'm not saying I won't return for food in the future, but I'll be ordering something without beef. And if nothing else, it'll be a great spot to grab a beautiful margarita with friends!
