Augusta Regional Airport Dog Retiring
I just saw on the Richmond County Marshals Facebook page that the Augusta Regional Airport dog is retiring! K9 Abby is a bomb-sniffing Labrador who has worked at the airport protecting those who come in and out daily.

K9 Abby recently celebrated her 6th birthday, and according to The Augusta Press, she’ll be retiring soon with her handler Cpl. Thomas Boettcher.
K9 Abby was the first working dog for the Richmond County Marshal’s Office that worked to protect those coming in and out of the Augusta Regional Airport.
Meeting Abby
I actually had the chance to meet Abby once! I was working an event at the airport, and she was there with her handler. Much like every other event I do… I will be the one to spot a dog from a mile away! I got my picture made with her, and even have her card in my Jeep! She is such a sweet and pretty girl. I know she’ll be missed!
New Pup in Training
But Abby has left an impression… and the Richmond County Marshals Office is training a new pup!

She will work alongside Abby for a bit it seems at the Augusta Regional Airport! First, she will start her training this week and finish within the next 30 days! The naming process was set to end this morning… but I haven’t seen an official post about what they have settled on.
I know I’m a bit biased, because having a black lab of my own… Of course, I’m partial to them. My Labrador is the first dog of my own I ever had that was an inside pet! Prior to that, most of our pets had been family pets that stayed outside (I grew up in the country!).
Best Wishes
Although I’m sad that Abby is retiring, I hope she has a great life chasing after her ball and living the good life! And I can’t wait to see what her successor will do. I am always amazed at just how smart dogs are. They are truly incredible creatures!
