Friggatriskaidekaphobia: Fear Of Friday The 13th
Ah, Friday the 13. Where did the origin come from? Gather around kids, I will tell you a tale of Friggatriskaidekaphobia.
Fridays have always been unlucky, way before Rebecca Black came around.

According to the Christian backgrounds (as told by LiveScience), Eve gave Adam an apple that day, and Jesus was crucified on a Friday. Also, according to Dummies.com, this was when the Fall of the Knights Templar occurred, back on Friday the 13, 1301.
13 on the other hand, it has been told it’s bad luck for 13 people to show up for the same event. Judas, being number 13 to crash Jesus’s party with the Disciples after he’d been replaced in the set of 12, while IBTimes shares the story of the Gods feasting in Valhalla with Odin when Loki shows up uninvited to dinner. Yeah, that Loki.

On top of many other superstitions, here are some shared by the International Business Times about things you shouldn’t encounter this Friday (which some of these, I didn’t think they were just on Fridays, like Mirrors, Black Cats, and more):
- If you cut your hair on Friday the 13th, someone in your family will die.
- If a funeral procession passes you on Friday the 13th, you will be the next to die.
- Do not start a trip on Friday or you will encounter misfortune.
- If you break a mirror on Friday the 13th, you will have seven years of bad luck.
- A child born on Friday the 13th will be unlucky for life.
- Ships that set sail on a Friday will have bad luck.
- If you walk under a ladder or if a black cat crosses you on Friday the 13th, you will have bad luck.
And of course, as there was a perpetual push of unluckiness for Friday the 13th, we cannot forget Jason Voorhees. As explained by IMDB, the initial plot was “A group of camp counselors is stalked and murdered by an unknown assailant while trying to reopen a summer camp which, years before, was the site of a child’s drowning.” That child, would be the hockey wearing masked, stabby fisted Jason. The rest of the movies continue on the same platform, all surrounding children’s camps and the surrounding areas.

Needless to say, there are many theories as to why Friday the 13th has a bad rap. But just in case, I’d watch your back. Don’t trip on black cats, don’t walk under ladders, and don’t be the 13th person to show up in the office kitchen.
