The Gingerbread Village At The Augusta Museum Of History Has Arrived!
Decorations are up and the Gingerbread Village at the Augusta Museum of History has arrived!
All the decorations at the museum were set up this week and the actual Gingerbread buildings have started to arrive from local bakeries.
This is an annual holiday event where each historic-themed gingerbread creation will be available through a silent auction. All proceeds from the auction will be to benefit the museum programs and exhibitions.
You will be able to see all the gingerbreads on display starting today November 16, through Sunday, November 26. The museum will be closed for Thanksgiving Day on November 23. You will also get the opportunity to bid on the structures during regular museum hours.
The intricate gingerbread houses are constructed by local artists and bakers. They represent historic landmarks and structures of five counties in Georgia and South Carolina. Visitors are invited to bid on the gingerbread houses via silent auction and to cast their vote for the People’s Choice Award.
The display is in the Museum Rotunda and is free to the public. Museum admission is required to tour the other exhibits.
Gingerbread Fun Day
To kick off this annual event, the Augusta Museum will also be hosting a Gingerbread Fun Day this Saturday, November 18, from 1 pm until 2 pm.
Children of all ages are invited to the museum for an afternoon reading of the holiday classic, The Gingerbread Man by Jim Aylesworth with a craft following. The fun starts at 1:00 into with a quick tour of the Gingerbread Village in the Museum Rotunda, followed by the reading and craft. Below is an example of one of the Gingerbread houses from 2 years ago in 2021 that was a part of the Gingerbread Auction. Local Bakery Dolce Darlin’ decided to recreate their actual location “the pink house” into a Gingerbread house.
