The best pop songs of all time might surprise you. As we get into the last month of the year it’s fun to reminisce on the last 11 months and how fast they’ve gone by. As a radio professional, it’s my job to schedule the music on my station that runs on a daily basis. When I schedule playlists this time of year I find myself wondering when a particular song was released. I’m always shocked when I look at the date we added the song to the station and it’ll say January of the current year. That’s the case for both “Kill Bill” by SZA and “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus. They were both added in the second and third week of January and are still two of the most popular songs on the radio station. It makes the year feel like it went by so fast.
Best Pop Song Of The Year
This was a great year for pop music partly thanks to Taylor Swift. Late last year she released “Midnights” and announced her massive Eras Tour. One year later she’s still in the spotlight, releasing music, and every single one has been a banger. When she started her tour, her single Cruel Summer became her most streamed, ended up going directly to radio, and went #1. What the non-Swiftie or casual radio listener doesn’t know is that Cruel Summer is from her Lover album. That album was released in August of 2019 and five years later that single became a hit. In my opinion, that’s the pop song of the year with “Flowers” coming in a close second. I can’t wait for Billboard’s end-of-the-year chart to show where this past year’s songs rank.
