Rihanna Inviting Johnny Depp To Make Fenty Show Appearance Angers Fans
Rihanna’s annual Savage X Fenty Vol. 4 fashion show returns next week and one scheduled guest is causing a bit of controversy. According to a report by gossip website TMZ, Johnny Depp will be featured in the show. The actor won’t be walking the runway, but have a featured moment like Cindy Crawford and Erykah Badu had in the past Savage X Fenty shows.
Fans of Rihanna are not happy with the reports of the accused domestic abuser and have taken to Twitter to voice their thoughts.
One person wrote, “everyone shocked that rihanna supports johnny depp, a rapist, abuser & groomer as if she wasn’t posing with nicki minaj and her sex offender husband last year. Like Rihanna didn’t give an ‘all lives matter’ segment at the height of Israeli terrorism towards Palestine last year.”
Another Twitter user said, “The fact that it was Rihanna who wanted to work with Johnny tells you everything you need to know.” Another added, “Rihanna really saw a man that hasn’t used shampoo in months and put him in a fashion show I can’t.” Yet another wrote, “Savage x Fenty is already a flop adding Johnny Depp to the mix is just another example of how out of touch Rihanna actually is.”
“rihanna can’t be serious? with all these beautiful and unproblematic men in hollywood, and johnny depp is the one that appeals to you the most?” wrote one person. “out of all the unproblematic white men in hollywood rihanna and her team go for johnny depp? like tf??” wrote another.
Bringing up her former boyfriend Chris Brown, one person said, “I hope you know the Venn diagram of John Depp stans who defend your abuser Chris Brown is practically a circle @rihanna.” Another said, “rihanna??? rihanna who is abused by chris brown??? supporting another abuser????”
It is worth noting that in 2012, Rihanna discussed her abusive relationship with Chris Brown. Referencing the infamous 2009 Grammy night when Chris Brown assaulted her, resulting in her face being battered and bruised. In March 2009, Brown was charged with felony assault after the altercation with the singer and pleaded guilty, sentenced to serve five years probation and 1,400 hours of community service. In August 2013, he was assigned an additional 1,000 hours, to be completed before the end of his probation on August 25, 2014. Per USA Today, she said, “We’ve been working on our friendship again. Now we’re very, very close friends. We’ve built up a trust again… We love each other and we probably always will. And that’s not something we’re ever going to change. That’s not something you can shut off, if you’ve ever been in love.”
She continued, “I think he was the love of my life. He was the first love. And I see that he loved me the same way… it’s not even about us being together. I truly love him. So the main thing for me is that he is at peace. I’m not at peace if he’s a little unhappy, or he’s still lonely.”
The “Lift Me Up” singer said of the incident, “I was hurt the most. Nobody felt what I felt. It happened to me in front of the world. It was embarrassing, it was humiliating, it was hurtful. It’s not easy. I lost my best friend. Everything I knew switched. Switched in a night.”
