Camila Cabello Donates $10K to 8-Year-Old Homeless Chess Champ
Like most of us, singer Camila Cabello was extremely inspired by the 8-year-old child who, in spite of being homeless, just became New York State’s chess champion.
But Cabello took things a step further by donating $10K to his GoFundMe account.
Tanitoluwa Adewumi, known as Tani, fled Boko Haram violence in Nigeria with his family before coming to New York last year. Since then, he has been living in a homeless shelter but still finding time to beat the odds. Just last week, he went viral for beating out dozens of other contenders to become New York State’s champ in his category, despite learning the game just a few months ago.
“Tani, you make all of us proud. Keep smiling and keep winning ps guys let’s spread the word and help him out,” she wrote before sharing a link to his GoFundMe.

Cabello’s donation helped the young phenom’s fundraising efforts more than triple his original goal of $50K. With the money raised, his family has been able to find a new apartment.
