Spring Break Trip Ideas – Georgia and South Carolina

Welcome to Georgia and South Carolina, where the temperatures are going to be back up near 80 degrees mid-week. Need I remind you that it’s only February?  But if you’ve lived in the area, nothing surprises you when it comes to our crazy weather.  And now, we’re already dealing with POLLEN!  You know… that annoying yellow dust that covers everything, and has a tendency to make us sneeze?  Yep, it feels like spring is already well upon us. Then again, we could have a snowstorm in March.  But, all these warmer temperatures have us thinking about spring break trip ideas.  Hard to believe, but it’ll be here before we know it!

When it comes to spring break trip ideas, the options are limitless!  There are many great places that aren’t too far from the Augusta area, whether you’re looking for beaches, mountains, historical spots, or theme parks.  And you have places you can go with a lot of activities, or places where you can simply take a break, kick back and relax without an itinerary.

So if you’re like us and already dreaming of spring break trip ideas… we’re here to help!  Now, Travel + Leisure put together a list of the top 10 best spring destinations in the U.S. so we have incorporated a few of those that are relatively close by.  And we also took a look at Ciao Bambino‘s list of favorite family spring break getaways in the Southeast and Simply Awesome Trips‘ list too!

So where should you go?  Here are some spring break trip ideas!

  • Greenville, South Carolina

    Greenville is a wonderful spot for food lovers, and those who enjoy the outdoors.  This area is about 2 1/2 hours from Augusta, and could be made into a day trip too.

    Falls At The Reedy is a beautiful outdoor area to explore.  Plus, you can enjoy the riverfront area downtown that’s bustling with dining, shops, art galleries, and more! There are great places to hike and bike in the area too.

  • Charleston, South Carolina

    Charleston is a beautiful place to check out in the spring.  It’s about a 3 hour drive from the Augusta area.  You can enjoy mild ocean breezes, and blossoming trees and flowers.  The area is picturesque, and filled with historical areas to explore.  There is so much to see and do, and many wonderful dining options too.

  • Hilton Head Island, South Carolina

    Hilton Head Island came in at number 6 on Travel + Leisure’s list for best spring break destinations.  This destination is just over 2 1/2 hours from the Augusta area. With 12 miles of Atlantic Ocean beaches, there are many water activities the whole family can enjoy. But if water sports aren’t your thing, there’s plenty to do on land too- biking, golf, horseback riding, and more.

    Hilton Head also has a great selection of dining options, pubs, cafes, and more to keep everyone happy.  There are plenty of accommodation options, and Savannah and Beaufort aren’t too far away to check out too!

  • Savannah, Georgia

    Savannah is another beautiful historic town that makes a great spring break spot. It’s around 2 1/2 hours from Augusta.  There are so many historical sites to see, lots of great dining and shopping on the river, and more!

  • Atlanta, Georgia

    Atlanta is a great spot for spring break fun, and can easily be a day trip!  It’s a little over a 2 hour drive from Augusta. There are so many activities to do!  Shopping, dining, museums, art, history, parks, theater, and more.  And definitely check out the aquarium!

  • Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina

    Wrightsville Beach is a little bit further drive, at almost 4 1/2 hours from Augusta. It came in at number 9 on Travel + Leisure’s top 10 list, and they called it one of America’s best beach towns.  You can enjoy water sports, shopping, dining, local history, and more.  There are beautiful oceanfront accommodations with gorgeous views.  Even if it’s too cold to enjoy the water, there are cruising and fishing excursion to enjoy too.

  • Great Smoky Mountains

    The Great Smoky Mountains spread across the Tennessee-North Carolina border.  Depending on what area you stay will determine the drive.  But according to Simply Awesome Trips, spring is a great time to visit.  You can of course enjoy the national park, which covers a huge area.  There are places to hike, bike, explore caves, or just relax in your cabin.  And Dollywood isn’t too far away, which would so much fun for the family!

  • Chattanooga, Tennessee

    There are so many things for kids and adults to do in Chattanooga.  It’s about a 4 1/2 hour drive from Augusta.  They have one of the largest climbing gyms in the country.  You can also check out one of the longest pedestrian bridges.  There’s also Civil War battlefields to check out for the history buff.  And the Chattanooga Aquarium.

  • Asheville, North Carolina

    Asheville is great for families.  It’s an artsy town with great restaurants, shops, galleries, and more.  Plus, beautiful scenery abounds!  Many great places to hike, or even a place to float the river.
