Not only is it Monday, but it’s Tax Monday. Tax Day, which always falls on April 15, might have you in all types of moods today. On the bright side, restaurants across the nation feel for you during this time, because they are serving up some pretty awesome deals and discounts.

What is Tax Day?

Tax Day refers to the final date that one can file for their tax returns and payments are due. The day, as stated, usually falls on April 15th unless that day falls on the weekend or holiday, then it is observed on the following business day.

While you can start filing at the beginning of each year, it never fails that flocks of people are racing to file their 2023 income tax returns up until the clock strikes midnight.

But like anything else, some exceptions may come into place.

While millions of Americans are filing today, millions also don’t have to file today because they have been granted automatic extensions if, for instance, they live or do business in a federally declared disaster area. Or if they live in Massachusetts and Maine, which observe Patriots Day on April 15, or Washington, DC, which marks Emancipation Day on April 16.

Americans living abroad automatically get an additional two months to file, until June 15.

Members of the US military stationed abroad also get that two-month extension, plus they may qualify for other extensions – including extensions to pay – if they are in a combat zone.

Then there are those who aren’t in those situations but can request an automatic six-month extension, which will push your filing deadline to October 15, 2024.
