After 2 years of travel restrictions due to the pandemic, it's no surprise Americans have been itching to travel. In fact, summer has been a perfect example. Despite high gas prices and major airline delays, people were still hitting the roads and air to get out of town. And even with inflation continuing to raise prices, there's still a huge travel demand. The website Travel Off Path put together the 7 top destinations Americans plan to travel to this fall.

While two out of three Americans consider cost the number one factor when planning travel, it seems they will do what they can to make it work. There are many ways to help the cost of travel- from budgeting, looking for travel deals, using AirBNBs, traveling as a group, and more.  Of course time of year and destination play a major role as well.  As a result of rising costs, it seems domestic travel is the option for most Americans who plan to travel this fall.

So, what are the most popular domestic destinations for fall travel?  According to Travel Off Path, here are the 7 Top Destinations Americans Plan To Travel To This Fall.

7. Nashville, Tennessee

Music, great food, lots of entertainment around every turn in Nashville. It's just over a 6 hour drive from Augusta!

6. Key West, Florida

This destination, while still in the States, has a very Caribbean vibe. Gorgeous beaches, great entertainment, and water sports. This trip, if you drive from Augusta, is going to take you around 12 hours to get there!

5. Lahaina, Hawaii

5 Cheap Vacation Spots Within 6 Hours of Augusta

Athens, Georgia - 2 Hours

Yes, Athens, Georgia made the list of Best Cheap Vacations in the U.S. Although for CSRA residents, this is around a 2 hour drive.  You could make this a day trip, or a quick weekend getaway.

Overall, it came in at number 10 out of 20 locations. US News points out the many free attractions in the area, which includes historic homes and parks.  You can also visit the University of Georgia, the Georgia Museum of Art and the State Botanical Garden of Georgia.

Beaufort, South Carolina - 2 1/2 Hours

Beaufort ranked at number 20 out of 20 on the list.  It's a laid-back place, full of Southern Charm.  There are lots of great shops and restaurants, plus Hunting Island State Park.

Gatlinburg, Tennessee - 5 Hours

Gatlinburg ranked number 6 out of 20 on the list. Right outside of the Great Smoky Mountains, you'll find a lot of great outdoor adventures- like fishing, hiking, biking and more. There are also a lot of great galleries and shops in the Gatlinburg Arts & Crafts Community.

St. Augustine came in at number 4 out of 20 on the list. This is the country's oldest city and full of historical landmarks. You're also close to the beaches as well.
