City Of Aiken Celebrates National Park And Recreation Month With Fun Events Throughout July
The City of Aiken has a full month of fun events for the community to celebrate National Park and Recreation Month. The events include free zumba, popsicles at the park, ice cream socials, and nature walks.
National Park And Recreation Month
According to the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), National Park and Recreation Month has been celebrated in July for almost 40 years. The goal is to promote community through the power of parks and recreation. It’s a month to enjoy the parks and activities in local communities. It’s also a time to recognize the more than 160,000 full-time park and recreation professionals, plus the many part-time and seasonal workers and volunteers. These individuals help maintain our local, state, and community parks.
The theme for 2024 is “Where You Belong.” This theme highlights how parks can help foster a sense of belonging. Our parks often provide many great programs and services for all ages and abilities. These safe, accessible spaces can help build an even stronger community.
Local leadership acknowledging and celebrating this month helps to highlight the important role and benefit that these spaces and programs provide to the community. By celebrating this month, communities can bring even more awareness to the resources and programs that are offered, which in turn builds more community and connection.
During this month, there is a dedicated day to celebrate the professionals who contribute to our parks. This year, Park and Recreation Professionals Day will be celebrated on Friday, July 19th.
The City Of Aiken Celebration
In a Facebook post on June 27th, the City of Aiken announced their celebration for National Park and Recreation Month. Throughout the month, Aiken will honor the people, places, and programs that contribute to the city’s parks, recreation, and tourism.
