folklore Was Inspired By Ireland
The pop icon released her folklore in July 2020 and revealed to her Irish crowd that she wrote the songs for the album two days into the COVID-19 lockdown. In videos captured and shared on social media, Swift says, “folklore in general — it just belongs to Ireland. How I imagined the album world looking [in] Ireland. Storytelling with lots of different characters. You guys have that on lock, too. That’s very Irish, the storytelling.”
While wearing the colors of the Irish flag, she added, “I had to create an album where the imaginary world that I pretended to go to every single day while I was writing it… I gotta be honest, kinda seemed like Ireland. So we’re back to where we belong. folklore belongs with you guys!” The audience roared in acceptance of her words, with more fans adding their thoughts on it on X (formerly Twitter).
One person added a scene from Friends with the words, “So this is a song about a love triangle between 3 people I made up. There’s a girl we’ll call her Betty.” Another fan said, “my heart was so full when taylor talked about the inspiration behind folklore being irish folklore and that’s why she will always be my fave album!!” A third Swiftie hilariously stated, “As a folkwhore I don’t know if I’ll ever recover from Taylor calling folklore her most Irish album and that she imagined herself in somewhere that looks like here when she wrote it [watery eyes smiling emoji, sobbing emoji].” Added another fan: “Not to alarm anyone but Taylor was just yapping about story telling and how the Irish are the best at it and like…legend has it that St. Patrick drove the SNAKES out of Ireland. So do with this info as you will [clown emoji].”
When Swift released folklore, she announced on social media that the record consisted of songs she has “poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into.”
While Swift was performing in Dublin, Julia Roberts, Stevie Nicks, and Travis Kelce were in attendance.
