I don’t know about you, but sometimes sleep can be elusive. Whether it’s struggling to fall asleep or waking up throughout the night, many of us struggle with sleep issues. Some people need the perfect conditions. That can include airflow, silence, or some sort of noise. And if you’re looking for music to help you sleep, you can thank Mornings.co.uk for doing some research on the best pop songs to help you sleep!
Think about it, many parents sing lullabies to help their babies fall asleep. So what is it about those lullabies that help? Mornings.co.uk used science to look at the elements of lullabies- like rhythm, tempo, tone, and more. Certain elements about songs can definitely help you fall asleep by calming the nervous system, slowing your breathing and heart rate, and lowering your blood pressure!
To start their research, Mornings.co.uk built a list of the most popular lullabies. Then they used a sleep song scale to measure the average value of 10 audio features.
These audio features are:
- Acousticness
- Danceability
- Energy
- Instrumentalness
- Loudness
- Mode
- Speechiness
- Tempo
- Time Signature
- Valence
They then took these features to produce a 0 to 100 scale, that they then applied to popular songs.
When it comes to pop music, Billie Eilish seems to be the most sleep-inducing artist… not sure if that’s a good or bad thing!
