Fatal Crash in Aiken Results in One Death:UPDATE

A fatal crash in Aiken this morning has resulted in the death of an Aiken man. The South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the scene of the accident at 10:23 am near the intersection of Hitchcock Parkway and Northwood Drive. Authorities say a 2010 Honda Civic headed east on Hitchcock Parkway crossed the centerline and hit an oncoming Aiken County Emergency Medical Service Amulance. The driver of the Civic, 33-year-old Isaiah Johnson. was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables. Johnson's body will be sent to Newberry where an autopsy will be performed Monday. Authorities say the ambulance was transporting a patient at the time of the crash. The ambulance driver, another EMS worker in the vehicle and the patient were all injured and were taken to an area hospital for treatment.  It's not known how seriously they were hurt. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident. City of Aiken officials announced shortly after the accident that some roads were closed in the area and detours were set up while emergency crews were on the scene. "Traffic going east on Hitchcock Parkway should divert down Houndslake and traffic going west on Hitchcock should divert down Oriel," said the release from the City of Aiken after the wreck. All roads are back open.
