Mine and my wife's engagement almost went awry.  I thought I'd be smooth and take my Jeep on a trail in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee.  I had no idea what I was doing.  I just wanted to find a beautiful view of the mountains and propose to my wife.  As we were losing light I was getting nervous.  We decided to go hiking on a nature trail.  That's when I found a perfect little tree stump to put her on, I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me.  As soon as I slid the ring on her finger a guy came walking out of the woods towards us with a chainsaw.  We certainly didn't know what we were looking at.  He congratulated us and kept on moving.

I've never met a couple whose engagement has gone exactly the way they planned it.  Things get especially risky if you involve the elements like an ocean, lake, or mountain.  I've never thought putting a ring in food or a drink was ever a good idea.  However, if you can get through an awkward engagement and laugh about it, you can get through life together as a married couple.  At the same time, if an engagement goes completely off the rails then maybe it just wasn't meant to be.  If you're planning on getting engaged or will be soon good luck and don't forget to buy that ring insurance.

Check out these hilarious and awkward engagements below!  The first one came after a guy finished running a marathon.  He started to cramp up as he got down on one knee.  They had to rub his cramps out while he was lying flat on the ground.  His girlfriend waited patiently and he eventually got up and proposed.

Engagement by the water fail.

Engagement in the ocean fail.

All of this work and she said no.

She thought he was proposing but his feelings were VERY clear.

The giraffe was just too excited for the happy couple.

On a mountain near a waterfall is always risky.

They laughed, they cried, they had to go stop a toddler from jumping into the ocean.

A not so "Magical" proposal.
