The world around us seems to get more dangerous by the day.  And criminal activity is on the rise. We like to believe we live in a safe place, but it's a good idea to be alert.  Thankfully, none of the cities in the CSRA made it onto this list of the top 30 cities with the highest murder rates from Neighborhood Scout. But South Carolina has a few cities among the murder capitals in the US.

Neighborhood Scout used the most recent data the FBI classifies as "Final, non-preliminary."  This is the best data with complete national coverage available.  Their research looks at the cities with the highest number of murders per 1,000 residents.  The research was limited to cities with 25,000 plus residents.

So which South Carolina cities are among the murder capitals in the US?

At number 27 out of 30, you've got Florence, South Carolina.  The murder rate there is .30 per 1,000 residents, which is 4.6 times the U.S. average.

Coming in at number 24 on the list, you have North Charleston, South Carolina.  The murder rate there is slightly higher at .33 per 1,000 residents and 4.9 times the U.S. average.
