New Year Goals, instead of Resolutions!

When it comes to the start of a new year, we often think about making New Year's Resolutions, but I like the idea of New Year Goals. And it's not uncommon for those resolutions to revolve around our bodies.  Unfortunately, we live in a culture that is extremely focused on appearance and weight.

But what if you created some goals that AREN'T about losing weight? Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with wanting to feel good in your skin.  But, sometimes starting other goals for your mind and body can have a ripple effect throughout your life!  Here's what I'm working on this year!

Here are my favorites from the list!

Meditation

If you read my Word Of The Year post, you know that this is on my list!  Meditation is a great way to slow down.  It can help with anxiety and help with better sleep too!

Journaling

Journaling is another way to ease stress and anxiety.  Sometimes just writing things down can help you gain clarity on a situation.  We can't always express our emotions to the person we'd like to, so writing can be a great cathartic way to get those out!

Saving Money

This is one I could really work on.  Set a savings goal this year.  Maybe even plan a special trip or activity to save up for.  Creating a budget can also be a great way to be more mindful of your spending and save some money!

Read A Book A Month

As someone who LOVES to read... I really like this one.  I'm actually going to try to do more reading this year because I get really busy and let it fall to the wayside.  Reading can be calming.  It's a great way to wind down at the end of the day.  And of course, you can always learn a lot by reading!

Adopt An Animal

You guys KNOW I love animals, so this made my list of favorites for sure.  There's nothing like the love of a pet, and with so many animals in our local shelters and with our local rescues, you're sure to find a great pet for your family.  Be sure to check out our Wet Nose Wednesday pup every week!

Declutter

I go through phases of wanting to trash everything and start over.  I can't be the only one, right?  It can be overwhelming-- but if you pick one area or room at a time, it's definitely doable.  I've always said I wanted to be a minimalist.  I don't think that will ever happen, but I could definitely stand to get rid of a LOT of stuff!  Don't forget to donate those items too!

Unfollow Toxic Social Accounts

This is a GOOD one!  Have you ever found yourself scrolling Instagram and it leaves you feeling... blah?  It's okay to click UNFOLLOW on those accounts that leave you feeling less than.  Let's work on not comparing ourselves to others this year-- you are ENOUGH!  You are worthy.  Now unfollow those toxic accounts!

Rest When Needed

This is a great reminder for me.  I joke and say I don't know how NOT to be busy.  It's where I thrive, I guess.  But honestly, we live in a cultural that pushes us to extremes with a constant GO GO GO.  This year, tune into your body and realize when it's telling you to rest and recharge.  I am SO guilty of this.  And I guilt myself when I don't go to the gym.  But I'm  working on giving myself grace and not bending myself til I break!
