Thanksgiving can be stressful for the cook. Let someone else cook for you this Thanksgiving!

My Mom has always done the Thanksgiving lunch/dinner at our house over the years, and I remember her getting up at 4 or 5 in the morning to get started. Turkey in the oven, dressing from scratch, a cake, a pie or two, gravy, you name it, we had it.

I usually pick up a prepared meal for my mom and family before heading home. Don’t get me wrong; I still ask her to make her God Bless America, Thank You, Lord, homemade biscuits! But, bringing fully prepared food is so much easier for my mom, even though she loves to cook.

This year, you’ll find prices are way up; believe it or not, there is a turkey shortage. A turkey shortage? Yep, according to the USDA, that’s partly because of outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI). Inflation plays a part, too.

The good news is we have some great places in the CSRA to get some great southern Thanksgiving goodness to take home. Brad Usry with Fat Man’s tells me we need to order early to reserve our spot, especially with the current shortage. In addition to the prepared food, we can always count on some family members to bring extra stuff. In our family; it was always my late sister’s deviled eggs she was famous for, and she always arrived late for Thanksgiving, ha! Also, mom’s homemade cakes. Plus the pecan pies my sister-n-law always brought and told me she made, and I knew they came from Publix. Pass the pie! Our little secret.

It’s about four weeks away and will be here before you know it. I hope you have plans to visit family and enjoy your Thanksgiving; thanks to local places like Wifesaver and Fat Man’s, it can be a relaxing day with family. One last tip….paper plates. So much easier.

Happy Thanksgiving to y’all!
