Here are a few of my favorite Happy Hour spots in the Augusta area.  I rarely get to attend a happy hour because they all usually end by the time I get off of work.  When I get to sneak out a little earlier, my favorite spot to enjoy happy hour is Sole Augusta, which is on the list.  My favorite bourbon is Buffalo Creek and it's really hard to find behind the bar, let alone in a liquor store.  Sole' has it at a regular price of $9 for a pour.  During their happy hour, it's marked down to $6 a pour.  It's truly my happy place for about an hour.

Let's Go To A Happy Hour

Whether it's with a co-worker, friend, or loved one, going to a happy hour gives you a chance to unwind after a long day.  Usually, it's when you can enjoy a favorite adult beverage or two at a lower price.  Sometimes accompanied by some delicious bites or tapas.  I can also confirm that really great business ideas can come from a happy hour.  A bit of employee comradery and connection can be built at a happy hour work gathering.  How did it all start though?

The History Of Happy Hour

There are a few origins of what "Happy Hour" means.  The actual term came from the U.S. Navy in 1913 as sailors on the USS Arkansas had organized clubs called the "Happy Hour Club" or "Happy Hour Social Club."  To distract them from the heaviness that war can bring, the crew would hold happy hours where the entertainment ranged from holding boxing or wrestling matches, showing movies, playing music, and more.  Similar names to these clubs however date back to primarily women's social gatherings in the 1880s.  By the end of World War I the concept of happy hours spread through the entire Navy.

Drinking Before Dinner

The idea of having a beverage or two before dinner seems to have come from the Prohibition era.  When alcohol was banned from 1920 to 1933, people would hold "cocktail hours" or "happy hours" at secret bars before dinner because alcohol was banned at all restaurants.  Cocktail lounges would eventually continue the tradition of serving alcohol before dinner.  Next time you go to a happy hour and are sipping a cocktail this is definitely something to remember.  You once had to find a hidden bar or speakeasy to enjoy an alcoholic beverage.  Here are a few of my favorite Happy Hour spots in the Augusta area.

Finch & Fifth

Their daily Happy Hour runs 3 pm to 6 pm and they have a fantastic selection of wine, cocktails, and tapas.  I recommend the Old Fashioned Tomahawk.  Check out everything they have to offer here!

Metro Coffeehouse and Pub

Metro Coffeehouse and Pub is exactly what it says it is.  Sometimes I want my beer to taste like coffee so I always know where to go.  It's my spot for a cold Guinness poured right no matter what the season is.  Their daily happy hour is 4 pm to 8 pm.

Oliviana Ristorante

My wife and I love Oliviana's when it starts getting cool outside.  The atmosphere at their newly remodeled bar provides an experience like very few can in the area.  Their happy is Tuesday through Friday, 3 pm - 6 pm.  You might as well munch on a pizza too!

Sole Augusta

Easily my favorite happy hour spot in Augusta.  They make one of the best Moscow or Kentucky Mules in the Augusta area.  Their daily happy hour is 4 pm to 7 pm and there is something on their menu for everyone.

Edgar's Above Broad

Edgar's Above Broad has one of the prettiest views in downtown Augusta as it's a rooftop bar.  Their happy hour is Thursday through Saturday, 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm.
