Daniella Penaloza and Parker Boyd of Aiken snagged Evans Scholarships through the Old Barnwell Youth Caddie Program. The award pays for tuition and housing at participating schools.

"Daniella and Parker are two of our most outstanding caddies," said Nick Schreiber, per The Post and Courier. "And we've got some great caddies, but what separated Daniella and Parker is one, they're just great people. The content of their character is just so incredible."

Schreiber launched the Youth Caddie Program at Old Barnwell with the WGA. Since the club opened in 2024, hundreds of teenagers from nearby towns have joined and gained chances to work at the facility. Boyd and Penaloza are the third and fourth caddies from Old Barnwell to win this award.

Boyd attends USC with two majors, finance and real estate, at the Darla Moore School of Business. "It means a lot to me," he said. "Not only because of the actual full ride and getting your college paid for, but also the networking and all the job opportunities you get from the scholarship."

Penaloza learned about the program while practicing her swing at Old Barnwell with her coach. Ed Brockner, the mission director at the club, approached her about being a strong candidate.

"It just feels like a deep breath after feeling so suffocated for so long and being so stressed," she said. "And so anxious about life. I'm going to use this as a clean slate to further my education, to do what I want to do, even if I'm uncertain right now, but I'm confident I'll end up fine."

Across the United States, 1,260 caddies have attended 27 schools with help from the Evans Scholarship. More than 12,000 have won it since 1930.
