That Friday was supposed to be a PowerUp Asynchronous Learning Day, but plans shifted. Students and teachers will arrive at their regular time, following the usual routine.
District leaders unveiled the proposal at the Richmond County Board of Education's Feb. 10 meeting, affecting every school across the system.
"We understand that calendar adjustments can require flexibility from our families, and we sincerely appreciate their partnership as we work together to ensure continuity of learning for our students," said Dr. Tommy Welch, deputy superintendent of school improvement and strategic initiatives, to WRDW.
Dr. Welch explained why this matters. Losing instructional hours sets kids back. Recovering them keeps everyone moving toward goals, and he thanked families for rolling with the changes.
An updated calendar sits on the district website. Parents can check it anytime.
