The initiative gives students a window into aviation jobs. Pilots, mechanics, and technicians are among the positions featured. Participants get real, hands-on training at the Georgia site.
"It means so much to me. I know people that didn't have the same opportunities that I did. And through those same people, I can learn about the hardships and the experiences that they have and apply them to my experience here. I can learn about what I actually want to do in my career," said Thomas Lowry a student at the Cyber Academy of Excellence, according to WRDW.
Lowry had been at the airport just two days when he spoke. He stressed that working with his hands beats reading from books.
The Education and Workforce Initiative Program introduces young people to jobs they might never have thought about. Interns rotate through various positions while learning what the aviation world offers.
Before last week, no structured program existed at the airport. This internship changes that, creating a pipeline for tomorrow's aviation workers.
