Aiken Seeks Mural Proposals for Downtown Art Installation, $7,000 Stipend Offered

Aiken wants original mural designs from artists who live nearby. The winning artist gets $7,000.

This mural will celebrate something special. The city earned a rare honor as one of just 13 cultural districts across South Carolina. Artists from Aiken County or neighboring areas can apply if they have strong connections to the region.

What should the mural look like? Think bright colors. Make it a place where people want to snap photos. The words "Aiken Downtown Cultural District" must appear somewhere in the artwork.

The design needs to capture many types of art, from paintings to music, plays, dance, poetry, and storytelling. All of it matters.

Here's how it works: the mural gets painted on panels that can be moved. Then, workers will install those panels. Every artist who applies must explain their ties to Aiken in their application.
