Richmond County School System has started accepting applications for magnet schools and specialized programs for the 2026-27 school year. Parents can submit applications between Nov. 1, 2025, and Jan. 9, 2026.

The window gives families a chance to pick from four magnet schools and more than six specialized programs. House Bill 251 transfer applications will remain open until May 1, 2026, for kids who want to attend schools outside their assigned zone.

"We want every family to know that Richmond County has options for every student," said Brian Hadden, School Choice coordinator, according to Augusta CEO. "Whether your child is drawn to the arts, trade skills, or technology, there's a program designed to help them discover their passion and prepare for what comes next."

Every high school in the district offers access to more than 40 Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education pathways. Kids can enroll in career-focused courses covering agriculture, architecture and construction, government and public administration, plus other fields. If the course is offered at their assigned school, no application is needed.

Magnet schools decide who gets in based on academic performance, attendance, and conduct. Four-year-olds applying to kindergarten programs and students entering grades K-12 must complete a systemwide reading and math assessment, which will show whether they're ready for advanced coursework.

Testing sessions happen in January. Results get reviewed as part of admissions.

Parents can review eligibility requirements and apply online. The School Options Office can be reached at 706-826-1136.
