How the ‘Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking’ Paid Homage to The Original Films
If you’re missing Harry Potter, Hermione, and Ron, the Food Network has answered Potterheads’ prayers with Fred and George Weasley! But instead of pulling mischievous pranks, they’ll be giving us the inside scoop on nine pastry teams competing in the Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking!
So, grab your wands, broomsticks, and oven mitts, and let’s get baking!
What is Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking?
The Food Network (per Variety) describes “The Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking competition as a ‘ground-breaking series’ that ‘blends legendary storytelling and fantastical edible creations in a never-before-seen competition that will have audiences at the edge of their seats.’”
Aside from the hosts, James and Oliver Phelps (who, of course, played the Weasley twins), the baking competition also paid homage to the original movie franchise in a variety of creative ways.
Harry Potter Casts as Special Guest Judges
The contestants will be judged by culinary judges Carla Hall and Josef Youssef. Per Deadline, other Harry Potter actors will also make an appearance as special guest judges. Warwick Davis who played Professor Flitwick, Evanna Lynch as Luna Lovegood and Bonnie Wright who played the youngest Weasley, Ginny, are all set to appear in the six-part series.
Baking Magic at the Wizarding World
According to the Harry Potter website, the competition will be held at the place where it all began, Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, where the actual shooting of the movies took place. The competition will be held in familiar locations, like the unmistakable Platform 9 ¾ and Gringotts Wizarding Bank. The contestants will also be awarded the grand trophy in the Great Hall as if they won the House Cup.
Harry Potter’s Iconic Scenes
As published by People, as part of the challenges, the contestants have to “create edible versions of memorable Harry Potter scenes, like when Ron and Harry ride the Weasley’s flying car into a tree, and iconic magic, like the golden snitch.”
Potterheads Unite
Fans are understandably excited. Comments flooded the official Instagram announcement with one fan posting, “This looks bloody brilliant!!! I can’t wait to watch it!!!!” Another wrote, “As a hobby baker and a huge Harry Potter fan I AM SO EXCITED”
Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking is set to premiere on the Food Network on November 14 and will be available to stream globally via Max.
