In the promotional poster, SZA is seen wearing alien-like face prosthetics, reminiscent of a look she previously teased, which many believe may be a nod to her highly anticipated album Lana. “Fun times at the pain farm [heart emoji],” SZA commented on Instagram. However, fans have mixed feelings about the look.
“Solana don’t piss me off,” one person commented. “Oh she’s about to piss me off,” echoed another. “Girl that’s SZANT,” added another. “That’s a bug, where’s SZA?” joked someone else.
Others think this could be a clue about the follow-up to her project, SOS. “The ‘LANA’ tease,” noted one fan. “AND THE ROLLOUT BEGINS,” another added.
Despite experiencing leaks, SZA initially threatened to scrap the project but later announced plans to release the leaked tracks as SOS Deluxe and new songs on Lana.
On Reddit, users also discussed SZA’s Hot Ones look. One person asked, “Can a Gen Z/Alpha person explain to me what’s going on with her face? I’d like her to get off my lawn now.” A response read, “I’m Gen Z and my theory is she got work done and is hiding it. Either that or she’s doing prosthetics for her new album cycle.”
Many also questioned how she would manage to keep her prosthetics on while eating the “wings of death.” You know, because of sweat from extremely hot wings. Better yet meat sweats!
This could very well be part of SZA’s album promotion. Last year, singer Melanie Martinez debuted a new look for her album Portals with a dramatic video where she emerged from a giant egg as a pink, four-eyed alien. The look marked the rebirth of her alter-ego Cry Baby, described as “a pink-skinned, four-eyed fairy creature stuck between Earth and the afterlife.”
Recently, Martinez kicked off “The Trilogy” tour, showcasing prosthetics for her new look. The day before, she hinted at the change by sharing a photo without her alter ego for the first time since Portals promotion began.
