We Decorated Early For Christmas And Now We Always Will
We decorated early for Christmas and now we always will. Growing up, my Dad was never really ready to decorate for Christmas until the day after Thanksgiving at the earliest. Of course, all of this depended on if we were out of town for Thanksgiving or if it was just a busy week. But certainly, by December 1st, the tree was at least up, lit, and decorated. Our style of outside decorations was pretty modest but classy. We would string white lights around the shrubs in the front of the house. Electric candles would be placed in each front window and I’d have the “job” of turning them all on as the sun was going down. It didn’t matter the year though, we always waited to decorate until after Thanksgiving. Fast forward to today and my wife and believe in the same frame. We prefer to hold off decorating until after Thanksgiving. For the last couple of years, we’ve put the tree up on Thanksgiving night. This year, however, was a little different.
New Homeowners New Decor
When we bought our current house in 2020, it wasn’t until after Thanksgiving that we realized we had an actual home that was ours that we could decorate. That was also the Christmas of COVID. We hadn’t really planned our weekends accordingly so we skipped that year. However, 2021 would be the year that we actually decorated the outside of our house. We kept it simple too. We have six pillars on our front porch and simply bought six wreaths with red bows, six plastic gold bells, and simply attached one to the other and we were able to display each set on each pillar. It was adorable. Last year I tried to go bigger. It wasn’t my favorite.
I Want To Light Up A Block
Last year we added pre-lit garland to the pillars and handrails that frame the front porch steps. The only problem was that I didn’t realize we didn’t have an outside outlet. Everything had to run to the garage. Our house was built in 1984 so the outlets were scaring me a little when it came to handling that much power. Not to mention, we had A LOT of rain last year. We lit our house up on December 23rd, 24th, and 25th. We decorated it the day after Thanksgiving. It was cute during the day but at night you couldn’t see a thing, obviously.
We’ve Already Decorated
This year we decided to just go ahead and put everything up on the inside. This is mainly because our baby girl is due December 6th and we wanted to make sure Christmas was ready for her and for family when they come to visit. We’re not dealing with outside decorations this year which I was a little bummed about, but I’m actually happy that we decorated THIS early like a lot of people do. We always forget how much we love our Christmas Tree and now we get to stare at it for basically the next two months. We decorated early for Christmas and now we always will. As far as the lights go for next year, well, since I’ll be a Dad my ultimate goal is below.
