We all had that one movie we'd watch if we had a substitute teacher for a day.  I always liked it when you'd start hearing after the first period that your teacher was out sick from other students and that there was a sub.  Like everyone else, I always wanted to know who it was before I walked into the classroom.  That's when you could gauge what kind of day you were going to have.  A lot of substitutes I had preferred to teach the lesson that the teacher left.  In some cases, they would almost condense the lesson and let us do the homework in class for the last 20 or so minutes.  I liked that a lot.

The Substitutes I Didn't Like

While I don't remember their names now, there were two or three subs that were straight-up mean and had zero patients.  Getting a sub who was not near as kind or less pleasant than the actual teacher was so annoying.  In one case, I had a Spanish class sub that I couldn't understand.  It wasn't because I couldn't understand the language, but it was because her extremely southern accent was getting in the way of the correct pronunciation of the language.  I had the coolest Spanish teacher and thankfully, she went over that day's lesson again when she came back which was a big part of our senior exam.  The substitutes I did like were just good people.

The Substitutes I Did Like

There were a lot of substitutes in my school system that I liked because they could actually have a conversation with you no matter what age you were or class you were in.  They were easily relatable and a couple of them would become two of my teachers a little later on.  One particular sub in high school was an elderly gentleman who liked one particular movie approved by the school system.  For the life of me, I cannot remember his name, but he showed up to class dressed to the nines.  He wore his suits from the seventies with a bola tie and cow-print boots.  When you heard he was in the building, you wished so hard that he was your sub.  One year I had this man as a sub five times.  In total, I had him about 9 times throughout high school, and each time we watched Braveheart.  We all had that one movie we'd watch if we had a substitute teacher for a day.
