If You’ve Never Had Roasted Pumpkin Seeds Then Just Know You Are Not Alone
If you’ve never had roasted pumpkin seeds then just know you are not alone. I’ve carved many pumpkins into scary, funny, or awkward-looking jack-o’-lanterns, but not once have I roasted the seeds for a snack. My reasoning is that I get completely grossed out by the removal of the pumpkin “guts.”
Carving Into The Pumpkin
I never thought about this until I met my wife 10 years ago, but a lot of us have been starting the pumpkin carving process all wrong. She completely blew my mind when she said that you cut out the bottom of the and remove the seeds from the bottom. It makes it way easier when lighting and blowing out the candle and makes the top of your pumpkin look more together and not like it has a crooked head. Well, unless that’s what you’re going for.
Removing The Guts
Okay, back to removing pumpkin guts. I vividly remember carving pumpkins with my parents on the front porch a day or two before Halloween. When I was 5 or 6, my Dad cut the top off of the pumpkin, he told me to stick my hand inside and pull the “stuffing” out, and when I reached in and felt that texture I lost it. Of course, it was funny to my parents but even now it feels like I’m sticking my hand into a bucket of snot. Gross.
I’ve Always Thrown The Seeds Away
I know plenty of people who roast the pumpkin seeds after they remove them from the pumpkin and it looks really easy. I guess I’ve just been so over the seed removal process that I never think twice about saving them.
