Olivia Rodrigo Addresses Rumors ‘Vampires’ Is About Taylor Swift
Olivia Rodrigo is addressing rumors that her new single “Vampire” is about Taylor Swift. Rodrigo, 20, told The Guardian over the weekend that she was “very surprised” people thought the song was about the “Anti-Hero” singer. Rodrigo continued to say, “I never want to say who any of my songs are about. I’ve never done that before in my career and probably won’t. I think it’s better to not pigeonhole a song to being about this one thing.”
The reason why fans are speculating that “Vampire” is about Taylor, 33, is because the lyrics detail manipulation and fame. Rodrigo stopped publicly expressing her admiration for Swift a while ago, since she had to add Swift and her “Cruel Summer” collaborators to the credits of her 2021 track “Deja Vu.”

In a July interview, Rodrigo said “Vampire” isn’t necessarily about someone using her stardom to climb the social ladder. She said, “I think it’s more about someone being manipulative and sucking you dry, using you for all your worth. I think that that’s a universal theme, and I also think fame is more easily accessible now than it has ever been. It’s not just people in LA and Hollywood that have to deal with that.”
The lyrics to “Vampire” also reference an age difference and six-month relationship, which fans previously thought was inspired by Rodrigo’s producer ex-boyfriend, Adam Faze. However, a source recently told People that the song isn’t about him. The couple dated for seven months from July 2021 through February 2022.
Rodrigo opened up about the songwriting process for “Vampire” on social media in June. She wrote: “last winter and created the video with the incredible Petra Collins. writing this song helped me sort through lots of feelings of regret, anger, and heartache. it’s one of my favorite songs on the album and it felt very cathartic to finish. im so happy it’s in your hands now and I hope it helps u deal with any bloodsuckers in your life. all my thanks 4ever [red heart emoji].””
