Grovetown Woman Was Scammed Out Of $160,000
A Grovetown woman was scammed out of about $160,000. This is a crazy, but unfortunately true, story. I live in Grovetown. I wonder if I know this woman, or if I’ve met her before. Thankfully they didn’t use her name in the story. I always like sharing these stories to warn people about scams like this. Unfortunately this stuff happens way more than you’d think, and it could happen to anyone.
According to the Augusta Chronicle, a 70 year old woman in Grovetown was scammed out of about $160,ooo total on the dating app Zoosk. The woman met a guy on the app, and they have only talked on the phone. They’ve never actually met in person, however he asked her to cash some checks for him. She agreed to cash the checks and send the man the money back in cryptocurrency.
In addition to that, the woman began taking out personal loans to send this guy money. The woman told deputies that the man told her he was being detained at the Atlanta airport and needed $3,000 to be let go. I hate hearing stuff like this. Some people are so trusting and want to see the best in people. Unfortunately there are people out there ready to try and take advantage of that.
Please share this story with anyone you know who might be in a situation similar to this. We share these stories so that hopefully no one else will get taken by these people. To read the full Augusta Chronicle article about how the Grovetown woman was scammed out of $160,000, just click here.
