SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – OCTOBER 31: A carved pumpkin is seen alight at a Halloween house party on October 31, 2008 in Sydney, Australia. Halloween, also known as Hallowe’en and shortened from its original form of All Hallows’ Even, is internationally celebrated on October 31 and originates from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which was a celebration recognising the end of the harvest in Gaelic culture. My wife on the other hand has the steadiest hand with a knife and a pumpkin I've ever seen. Should I be worried about that? She free-hands the entire carving process. I just stand by and hand her the tools while I sip on a cocktail. We like to carve ours on the evening before Halloween. If you haven't carved your pumpkin, TikTok can help you carve it way faster with the hacks below. It's the simple things like making sure you carve it in your lap and carving it from the bottom which I never knew.
One thing I'm trying this year comes highly recommended by the TikTock'er. An easier way to loosen up the strings and seeds is to use a hand mixer. This will also make the cleaning-out process way easier. It will also cut your carving time in half. I'm a huge fan of this! When I was a kid I hated pulling the "guts" out of a pumpkin and I still do as a grown adult. Dry-erase markers are also recommended to use when you draw the face on your pumpkin. This way when you carve it, you can wife away any excess marker. Finally, if you want your pumpkin to stay moist so it'll last longer, rub some Vaseline on the carved surfaces.
