A fan on Twitter wrote on a since-deleted tweet: "Dua Lipa, the Cher of our generation," over a side-by-side photo of the two artists. In her photo, Dua bears a resemblance to the "If I Could Turn Back Time" singer. A string of outlets, including Harper's Bazaar, compared Dua's 2021 Grammy Awards look to the one Cher wore to the awards show 47 years earlier in 1974.
In response to the Tweet, Cher, 74, wrote: "How many yrs are in a generation" with a thinking emoji. A generation is generally considered between 20-30 years.
Twitter users came to Cher's defense, with one user adding, "Y'all coming for Cher one of the most influential female acts in music history... over DUA LIPA."
This summer, Cher collaborated with Versace on her own fashion line, cleverly named Chersace. The line dropped during June's Pride Month, with a rainbow color scheme and proceeds going towards Gender Spectrum, an organization that supports gender-diverse children, teens and their families.
Meanwhile, Dua was the face of Versace last year -- another striking connection to Cher.
Dua Lipa recently celebrated fashion designer Simon Porte Jacquemus' wedding in France, wearing a white, sheer gown with a thigh-high split and delicate floral embroidery made by the groom. Guests of the wedding also wore all-white and Jacquemus' clothing. Dua shared photos from the ultra-chic wedding to Instagram with the caption: "Celebrating the love of these two special people in my life. The most beautiful day, ceremony and obviously the mosttt FUN party (they just know how to do it) ~ grateful to experience these moments of pure happiness with youuuu - je t’aime."
