I wish this were actually a happy story... but unfortunately, it's not.  When you read "Texas Man Frees Dogs" that sounds positive. And while I am a HUGE animal lover and would love to see ALL the animals out of the animal shelter... this isn't the way to do it!

According to My San Antonio, a man in Texas broke into an animal shelter in Abilene and freed over 150 dogs this past weekend.  The Abilene Police Department found one of the dogs dead, and many others were injured from fighting each other.

Apparently, the 38-year-old suspect climbed a fence early on Friday.  The police department said he entered the shelter through the roof and opened many cages on the canine side. Some of the dogs even managed to escape the property altogether, requiring crews to locate them.  On top of releasing the dogs, the man also caused damage inside the building and to the roof.

As if that wasn't enough, he also fled the scene... in a van he stole from the shelter.  The can was recovered, and eventually, the man was brought in for questioning, then arrested and charged.

The Abilene Animal Shelter remained closed the day after the incident, but have since reopened.  Unfortunately, many dogs are still unaccounted for, and there were many with injuries.

If you're wanting to help rescue dogs... be sure to check out adoptable dogs with our Wet Nose Wednesdays.  That's a safe, legal way to free the dogs!
