Weekdays 10:00am-3pm

It’s back-to-school time for many kids over the next week or two.  In fact, my niece and nephews just started back to school today!  There’s a lot going on in kids’ lives these days.  Just like every human on the planet.  We’ve been through a lot over the past few years.  And as with anything, starting a new year, new grade, new school, new job… there can be anxiety! But it’s not just about the first day.  And this one teacher is making a huge impact on her students by acknowledging more than just grades!

Teachers Are Incredible!

I have a few friends who are teachers, and I have to give them huge props.  I honestly don’t think I could do what they do.  It truly takes special people to be teachers.  And during the school year, teachers play a major role in kids’ lives. Think back to your own school experience.  Chances are, you have a “favorite” teacher.  There’s someone who had a huge impact on your life.

Pressures With School and Life

With the pressures of life, kids deal with a lot.  Whether it’s the pressure to fit in, get good grades, or look a certain way. And let’s face it, we live in a pretty cruel world.  With all the access to social media and the societal pressures it puts on everyone, sometimes it’s not just about doing well in school.  It’s about doing well in life.

Ms. Po’s Unique Approach

That’s why I absolutely LOVE what this teacher is doing.  She’s not just focused on the kids getting good grades.  Ms. Po is truly working to help the students accept and love themselves.  She realizes that mental health is just as important, if not more so than getting good grades.

Connecting authentically with her students has a positive impact and makes the students want to participate and be a part of her class.  Her “Roses and Thorns” allows students to anonymously share what they are going through, and then they discuss how to handle those things. See the video below!
