Investigation began after a headless body was found behind a Georgia Burger King on Monday. After the discovery, the GBI Crime Lab has been brought in to process the body. They hope to find evidence and identify the remains. In addition, officials are requesting anyone with information to reach out.

News from Macon, Georgia

Someone walking through the woods made the gruesome discovery. The headless human body was found in Macon, Georgia.  Someone discovered the body while they were walking through the woods.  The person made the 911 call, which led to the beginning of the investigation.  The remains were found on Romeiser Drive, off Eisenhower Parkway in Macon.

State of the Remains

According to the coroner, there was no skull and "hardly any extremities left."  The body appeared very badly decomposed. But, officials were unable to determine race or gender upon the discovery.  They did find a pair of men's tennis shoes next to the remains. Therefore, officials initially believe it to be the remains of a male.

A team worked carefully to remove the remains while preserving evidence. The body was partially covered in dirt. The team carefully dug around the body to get everything in the body bag. Most importantly, the goal was to get all of the remains for the GBI Crime Lab. The more of the remains obtained, the more evidence and key pieces to identify the victim.

Additional Information

There are no firm details on how long the body was out there. However, the coroner does believe it's been there for a long time.

Investigators in Bibb County are asking the public for help. If you have any information, you can contact the Bibb County Sheriff's Office at 478-751-7500.
